HSN Hosts International Guest

SUDBURY, ON – HSN is hosting a visit by a Finland hospital CEO, Dr. Jouko Saramies, to share its learnings on process improvement and its positive impact on hospital management and operational processes.
Dr. Jouko Samaries, from Savitaipale, Finland oversees process and quality improvement activities in the Geriatric Hospital of Lappeenranta. His two-day visit includes spending the first day with HSN leaders to be introduced to HSN’s Management System, and the improvement approach deployed across the organization. Day two will focus on how tools and standards are put into practice every day by HSN staff.

Dr. Samaries will learn more about HSN’s governance structure, and about each level of leadership’s role in supporting front-line improvement work. He will accompany HSN leaders at departmental morning huddles and meet with the leads of selected units most relevant to his role in Finland.

“This visit is giving me great tools to consider and share with my organization in Finland,” says Dr. Samaries. “What stands out most to me is the problem-solving behaviour in all areas of the organization.”

Dr. Samaries was involved in a system transformation in a district hospital emergency department, prior to leading transformation efforts as CEO of a geriatric rehabilitation facility.

“These international exchanges are win-win. We shared some of the tools and new processes we’ve developed as we implement our quality and process improvement initiatives,” explains Joe Pilon, HSN Chief Operating Officer. “And in explaining the system in Finland, Dr. Samaries shared some of his learnings and best practices.”
