Recently, HSN’s Cardiodiagnostics Department received a portable echocardiogram (ECHO) machine thanks to the support of HSN Foundation.
The machine is an advanced piece of diagnostic imaging equipment used to visualize the arteries and chambers of the heart. It allows physicians to take a 3D sonogram of the heart.
”We are very grateful to HSN Foundation for the purchase of a new echocardiogram machine, the Affiniti 70,” said Alynn MacLean, Clinical Manager, Cardiodiagnostics. “This machine will allow us to perform a number of additional procedures, both in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and in our Echocardiography Clinic. We will be able to examine the structures of the heart using high-frequency sound waves during our Transcutaneous Aortic Valve Implantations (TAVI), extract fluid from around the heart during procedures, as well as use this machine for regular echocardiograms which help diagnose many heart problems in both our pediatric and adult population.”
In addition to the advanced, portable technology, the new equipment will allow for more patients to be seen in the Echocardiography Clinic and it offers the added benefit of being easier for staff to move throughout the hospital.
“Health Sciences North Foundation is proud to support HSN’s Cardiodiagnostic Department with the purchase of a portable ECHO machine,” said Mary Lou Hussak, President and CEO, HSN Foundation. “HSN Foundation strives to support the hospital with the purchase of some of the most advanced equipment to ensure patients have the best possible outcomes close to home. It is because of the generosity of our donors that we are able to fund priority purchases such as these at HSN.”
