NCF’s Trek for Cancer Gets Sudburians Out and Active

SUDBURY, ON – It was a beautiful sunny day on Sunday March 4th as the Trek for Cancer Snowshoe Fun Run participants hit the trails to raise funds and awareness for the Northern Cancer Foundation.

The Trek for Cancer is the second of six MOVE – The Kivi Park Fitness Series. The goal of the series is to get Sudburians out and active at Kivi Park while raising funds in support of the Northeast Cancer Centre.

“Being active and getting moving is a great way to stay healthy,” says Tannys Laughren, Executive Director of the NCF. “despite the cooler weather many of our participants crossed the finish line sweating and smiling. They know that they’re making a difference in their community and at the Northeast Cancer Centre.”

Times and results for the Trek for Cancer and the Cross-Out Cancer Ski Loppet are available online at Participants are awarded points for finishing events with prizes going to the best times at each event. There will also be prizes awarded for overall MOVE – The Kivi Park Fitness Series following the final event of the series in September.

Next up, the Cancer Centre Walk/Run/Bike will take place at Kivi Park on Sunday, May 27th with registration starting at 10:00 a.m. and all races starting at 11:00 a.m. The event will offer four different distances -1km, 3km, 5km and 10 km - with all routes running through scenic trails at Kivi Park. Registration fee is $35, which includes a T-Shirt and lunch. Participants are encouraged to raise funds by collecting pledges. Children ages 12 and under can take part in the 1km race for free! New this year for participants - if you raise $100 and over in pledges we will waive your $35 registration fee.
