North East LHIN Appoints Team to Validate

May 8, 2018 – The North East Local Health Integration Network (NE LHIN) has appointed a team to work on a third party validation of Health Sciences North (HSN) 2018-19 budget. The goal of the validation is to provide a thorough review of how HSN’s budget may impact service delivery and capacity at the hospital and across the system.

Kevin Empey, a highly regarded health care leader will oversee the validation and BDO Canada LLP will undertake the analysis. The team will report directly to the NE LHIN CEO and provide a report to the NE LHIN no later than June 30, 2018. The team will:
• Review and assess the feasibility of HSN’s 2018-19 budget and determine if there are any additional efficiencies to be gained with no impact on clinical services/patient care.
• Assess the long-term financial plan to enable HSN to maintain a balanced budget.
• Do a comparative analysis with other hospitals across the province.
• Consider the impact of the budget on revenue sources.
• Review partnerships to support patient care.

Kate Fyfe, NE LHIN Vice President of Performance and Accountability noted that, “The NE LHIN continues to work closely with HSN throughout this important process that is focused on ensuring continued quality patient care for Northerners while our region’s largest hospital achieves financial stability. The validation will help to ensure continued quality care for Northerners at HSN, in community, and right across Northeastern Ontario.”
