Sudbury & District Health Unit

Reporting to the Manager, Resources, Research, Evaluation and Development (RRED) Division, the Specialist provides leadership for the Ontario Public Health Standards’ Foundational Standard for the organization by providing support and expertise to teams on program specific issues and issues impacting more than one program or team. The Specialist promotes evidence-informed decision-making and policy/practice at the Sudbury & District Health Unit by leading, consulting, and providing expertise in the areas of population health assessment, surveillance, education, research and knowledge exchange, core competency development, program evaluation, professional practice and development, and program planning. The Specialist contributes to the organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease for everyone

Position:  Foundational Standard Specialist

Region:  Manitoulin/Sudbury

Description:  

  • Advanced understanding of the public health system and relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated project/program management, interpersonal and administrative skills, including the ability to set priorities, establish timeframes, and organize resources.
  • Demonstrated research and knowledge exchange, program evaluation, population health assessment, and surveillance skills.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, problem-solving facilitation and negotiation skills, as well as systems thinking ability.
  • Experience in developing and supporting collaborative relationships with different groups or agencies.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills, particularly with respect to the interpretation and presentation of evidence and in the mobilization of project teams.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues diplomatically and confidentially.
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral team member.
  • Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis and software.
  • Fluency in French is an asset. Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in public health or relevant community health experience. As well, experience in progressive supervisory and administrative responsibility, community partnerships, education and applied community health research, including program planning and evaluation, is required. Education: Master’s degree in relevant field, preferably with a focus in population, community or public health. Effective: Immediately
