Health Centre located in aundeck omni kaning first nation, Manitoulin Island (just outside Little Current)

Position:  Resolution Health Support Counsellor

Region:  Manitoulin/Sudbury

Description:  Noojmowin Teg Health Centre seeks the services of counsellor for the Resolution Health Support Worker program (RHSW) to start effectively immediately and ending March 31, 2020. The contract will may be extended pending funding availability. The Counsellor will provide culturally relevant counselling and healing support to former residential school students and their family members, and assist in the Indian Residential School reconciliation process.

Noojmowin Teg Health Centre is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals who provide community-based services using a wholistic approach including both traditional and western healing methods. Services are offered both on-site and within the Manitoulin Island District seven First Nations Health centres. The RHSW will report to the Anishinabe Aadziwin Manager, and under the direction of the Executive Director.

- Professional counseling and cultural and emotional support.
- Resolution support of Truth Reconciliation Commission events
- Support through the Common Experience payment, or a claim through the Independent Assessment process, Alternative Dispute Resolution, or court process.

? Post-secondary counselling degree or diploma, essential
? Three to five years counseling, preferably with elders and/or former IRS students
? Current registered social worker, or eligible to apply
? Anishnawbemowin language, strongly preferred
? Strong background or knowledge of Anishinabek traditional teachings and ceremonies, preferred
? Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
? Experience with data collection and e-charting, preferred
? Demonstrated ability to be a team player and work in collaboration within a shared care health model
? Ability to travel including clear driver’s abstract and a reliable vehicle
? Clear vulnerable sector criminal record check
