Noojmowin Teg Health Centre

Health centre located in aundeck omni kaning first nation, Manitoulin Island (just outside Little Current, Ontario)

Position:  Navigator/Counsellor SADV

Region:  Manitoulin/Sudbury

Description:  
Noojmowin Teg Health Centre is seeking full-time services of a Navigator/Counsellor for the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Program. The successful candidate will provide both navigational support, transitional counselling and assistance to victims/survivors of Sexual Assault and Domestic violence, with ongoing culturally relevant counselling and healing support.
The Navigator/Counsellor SADV will be central in ensuring that victims/survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence receive high quality culturally appropriate, client-centered and wholistic care and will work alongside others to achieve this. Working closely with the Program Manager and other key stakeholders in the provision of care to the victim/survivor, family and community, you will reflect the Mission, Values and Guiding Principles of Noojmowin Teg Health Centre.
Noojmowin Teg Health Centre is an Aboriginal Health Access Centre that provides traditional healing, primary health, mental health, and health promotion services to community members of the seven First Nations of Manitoulin District and surrounding areas. Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, occasional exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar, may occur in the work setting.

Qualifications

? Bachelor of Social Work preferred
? Three to five years counseling, preferably with victims of sexual assault and domestic violence
? Currently registered and a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
? Anishnawbemowin language, an asset
? Strong background or knowledge of Anishinabek traditional teachings and ceremonies, preferred
? Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
? Experience with data collection and e-charting, preferred
? Current CPR Level C and First Aid
? Demonstrated ability to be a team player and work in collaboration within a shared care health model
? Ability to travel including clear driver’s abstract and a reliable vehicle
