Province supporting 192 more long-term care spaces in the community while creating good-paying local jobs
MILTON — The Ontario government is celebrating the grand opening of the new Schlegel Villages long-term care home in Milton, known as The Village of Ridgeview Court, which provides a safe and supportive home for 192 residents in the community. This project, supported through the construction funding subsidy top-up, is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by creating good-paying jobs and building for the future, while ensuring long-term care residents get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve.
“Our government is investing over $236 billion in our plan to build hospitals, long-term care, roads, schools and other critical infrastructure so we can create good-paying jobs, protect workers and connect families to the high-quality care that they deserve,” said Premier Doug Ford. “Today’s grand opening means an additional 192 residents in Milton will have access to a world-class long-term care home for decades to come.”
The Village of Ridgeview Court long-term care home is three storeys tall and designed around six “resident home areas” that create a more intimate and familiar living space for up to 32 residents, each with its own dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms. The new home is designed with all private rooms and features a “main street” common area design, which provides spaces for programming, receiving visitors and community engagement. Amenities of the home include a library, spiritual centre, café, community centre and hair salon.
Construction of the project supported more than 250 good-paying local construction jobs, while the newly opened home will support 200 permanent positions, including full-time jobs in nursing, personal support work, nutrition services, programming and administration.
“The opening of the new Village of Ridgeview Court marks a major milestone in our government’s plan to protect residents and expand the availability of high-quality health care across the province,” said Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care. “Now that construction is complete, 192 residents in Milton have a safe and modern place to call home.”
The Village of Ridgeview Court long-term care home is part of a multi-phase development, with future plans including seniors’ care, accommodations and outreach programs.
This project is part of the Ontario government’s continued progress toward its commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care spaces across the province, as outlined in the
2026 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario. The plan to improve long-term care is built on four pillars: staffing and care; quality and enforcement; building modern, safe and comfortable homes; and connecting seniors with faster, more convenient access to the services they need.
Quick Facts- The new long-term care home known as The Village of Ridgeview Court is licensed to and operated by Schlegel Villages Inc.
- As of July 2026, 165 projects representing a total of 26,421 new and redeveloped spaces have been completed, are under construction or have received ministry approval to start construction across the province.
- The government is continuing its ambitious and extensive long-term care construction campaign with the 2025 Long-Term Care Home Capital Funding Policy (CFP). The CFP provides a funding framework that better reflects regional cost variations while addressing diverse operator needs within the long-term care sector.
- The province is taking innovative steps to get long-term care homes built, including modernizing its funding model, selling unused lands with the requirement that long-term care homes be built on portions of the properties and leveraging hospital-owned land to build urgently needed homes in large urban areas.
